General Charles Cornwallis

British Commanding General (1738-1805)

General Charles Cornwallis was a commanding British officer during the Revolutionary War. In spite of his sympathy for the colonists' grievances, he accepted the duty of a command in North America. He led the British forces in the South to many victories as well as losses. He surrendered his British Army to the Americans at Yorktown on October 19, 1781.
