Franklin D. Roosevelt
American 32nd U. S. President (1882-1945)
Franklin D. Roosevelt was the 32nd U.S. President and the only U.S. president to be elected to four terms of office. He served from 1933 to 1945, when he died while in office. He steered the nation through the Great Depression and World War II, and in both cases his cheery resolve and tendency to action helped boost morale. In 1921, at the age of 39, he was stricken with polio and lost the use of his legs. FDR was a fifth cousin of President Theodore Roosevelt.
