Tennessee Central Railway

American Tennessee Railroad (1884-1968)

The Tennessee Central Railway Company was founded in 1884 as the Nashville and Knoxville Railroad Company. By 1893, four lines were constructed, which connected Nashville and Knoxville. In 1902, the company was re-organized and renamed the Tennessee Central Railroad Company, then renamed the Tennessee Central Railway Company in 1922. In spite of tough financial problems, the railroad operated for eighty years, but ended in bankruptcy in 1968.
