American country music singer (1933- )
Willie Nelson (born April 30, 1933) is an American country singer-songwriter, author, poet, and actor. He reached his greatest fame during the "outlaw" movement in country music in the 1970s. He appeared in several movies, most notably 1980's semi-autobiographical "Honeysuckle Rose," the theme from which, "On The Road Again," was a #1 country hit and a cross-over Top 20 hit on the pop charts. In 1985 Nelson formed country supergroup The Highwaymen along with Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson. That same year, he held the first "Farm Aid" concert to help keep family farms in the hands of their owners. Over the years he has received as much media attention for his tax problems and a 2006 marijuana arrest as he has for his music, but he continues to tour and record.
