American five & dime store chain

The F.W. Woolworth Company, popularly known as Woolworth's, was founded in 1878 by Frank Winfield Woolworth. It grew to the largest retail chain in the world by the 1970s, but by the 1980s the chain was closed. The company had also developed the Foot Locker sporting goods chain, the success of which prompted the company to change its name in 2001 to Foot Locker, Inc.
