On This Very Spot the presence of an estate was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086.

On This Very Spot is located Cricket St. Thomas Manor House, originally built in the 14th century but rebuilt in the early 19th century with landscaping designed by Capability Brown. The house is popularly referred to as "Cricket House."

On This Very Spot from 1979 to 1981, the manor house played the role of "Grantleigh Manor" in the BBC sitcom To The Manor Born. Both exterior and interior scenes were filmed in the manor house. The Lodge, dressed up as the gatehouse in the TV series, is located about one mile away.

On This Very Spot in 1999, the manor house was converted to a resort hotel. The wildlife park is open to the public and is home to 600 rare and endangered species including lemurs, primates, camels, reptiles, and wildfowl.
