On This Very Spot in 1599, William Shakespeare built his famous open-roof playhouse.

On This Very Spot in 1613, three years before Shakespeare's death, the Globe burned to the ground.

On This Very Spot in 1996, just 200 yards from the original site, an exact replica of Shakespeare's Globe was opened to the public. Constructed using authentic Elizabethan materials and techniques, it is the first thatched-roof building in London since the Great Fire of London.
