On This Very Spot on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, Martin Luther King, Jr. made his famous "I Have a Dream" speech to more than 200,000 people during a peaceful civil rights rally on August 28, 1963.

On This Very Spot the Lincoln Memorial has been a setting and/or film location for numerous movies, including Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Forrest Gump, and The Firm.
