On This Very Spot Steve Cropper, Duck Dunn, and Don Nix attended high school. The trio formed The Mar-Keys, the original house band at
Stax Records and the forerunner to
Booker T. and the MGs. In the 1980s, Cropper and Dunn became part of The Blues Brothers Band, appearing in 1980's
The Blues Brothers (movie) and playing on all the band's albums.
On This Very Spot Jimi Jamison, lead singer of rock group Survivor, attended high school.
On This Very Spot actor and producer Andrew Stevens, son of actress Stella Stevens, attended high school.
On This Very Spot in 1979, Messick High School was closed and part of the original 1908 building was demolished. In the 1980s, the high school building built in the 1930s was also demolished. The remaining buildings now serve as Messick Adult Education Center.
