On This Very Spot on May 30, 1955, Thurgood Marshall delivered the inaugural dedication address, for the Masonic Temple. In 1951, Marshall challenged Jackson, Mississippi to construct such a facility as the Masonic Temple, so that the Civil Rights Movement would have a presence in Jackson, Mississippi.

On This Very Spot was Medgar Evers's last NAACP office.

On This Very Spot on June 7, 1963 a NAACP benefit concert was held. This concert starred Lena Horne and Dick Gregory.

On This Very Spot in 1963, the funeral services for Medgar Evers were conducted. Roy Wilkins was the major speaker. Ralph Bunche, Martin Luther King, Jr., Rev. Ralph Abernathy, and Dick Gregory attended Evers's funeral.
