On This Very Spot, actress Jane Russell attended high school, Class of 1939. She began her acting career in school plays on this very spot.

On This Very Spot in the fall of 1941, 15-year-old Norman Jean Baker, the future Marilyn Monroe, started high school. Unfortunately, at the end of the school year her foster parents moved back east, leaving her to once again return to an orphanage. Instead, on June 19, 1942, the 16-year-old girl married her 21-year-old neighbor and dropped out of school.

Actors Victor French, "Little House on the Prairie" "Highway to Heaven", "Gunsmoke", and "Bonanza" and Lee Sands, "Twilight Zone", "Have Gun will Travel", "Lawman", "Shotgun Slade" also attended Van Nuys High School, as did Diane Lomond, casting director for ZIV studios, George Gerber productions "Police Woman and Police Story", Billy Jack Productions and married to Britt Lomond, famed as "Commandante Monastario" in the Disney Zorro series.
French was in the drama class and was actually the class comedian. Famed baseball star Don Drysdale also attended Van Nuys High. Sands was married to Cynthia Lynn of "Hogan's Hero's".
