On This Very Spot exterior shots were filmed for the 1983 movie A Christmas Story. These shots include the street scene in which Ralphie's father proudly displays his "major award" (a lamp shaped like a lady's leg) to the neighbors, and the backyard scene in which Ralphie finally gets to try out his Red Rider BB Gun.
On This Very Spot in December 2004, the house was sold via eBay auction to Brian Jones of San Diego. Jones, a huge fan of A Christmas Story, had already formed Red Rider Leg Lamps, a company that makes replicas of the Leg Lamp seen in the movie.
On This Very Spot on November 25, 2006, following two years of renovation, the grand opening of the A Christmas Story House was attended by thousands, including seven members of the movie's cast.
