On This Very Spot on August 1, 1952, Kemmons Wilson opened the first Holiday Inn Hotel with great fanfare.

Condition: The building was demolished in the 1990s. The Family Funeral Home now stands on the property. However, a roadside marker commemorates the historical significance of this very spot.
Parking: Summer Avenue is a high-traffic street with no parking. There are private business all around this spot. The closest streetside parking is a half-block north on the cross street of Mendenhall, on the opposite side of Summer.
Location: In east Memphis near the junction of I-240 and I-40.
