Holy Rood Catholic Church
Where Bernie Taupin was an altar boy and was married
King Street
Market Rasen,
Lincolnshire LN8
England
On This Very Spot in the late 50s and early 60s, both
Bernie Taupin and his older brother Tony served as altar boys. Although there was an Anglican church just up the lane from Taupin's childhood home in Owmby-by-Spital, the Taupin family was Catholic, so they attended Holy Rood Catholic Church here in Market Rasen. Taupin often uses Catholic and religious imagery in his lyrics.
On This Very Spot in 1971, Taupin married Maxine Fiebelman, inspiration for the song "Tiny Dancer," with
Elton John as best man. Because Elton had not yet legally changed his name, he signed the church registry with his original name of Reginald Dwight.
