On This Very Spot was set the scene in the 1991 movie The Silence of the Lambs in which Hannibal Lecter, played by Anthony Hopkins, is imprisoned in a special holding cell, but escapes by brutally murdering two guards. The exterior of this building is shown in the movie, with the legend "Shelby Country Courthouse, Memphis, Tennessee" at the bottom of the screen. Lecter has been transported to Memphis in hopes that he can shed light on the kidnapping of the daughter of a Tennessee senator.
