Beatles Spots in Liverpool, England

Liverpool is well-organized for fans of The Beatles, and Liverpudlians are friendly and helpful. The Tourist Information Centres offer detailed maps of Beatles spots, and there's even a special brochure with the local bus numbers for the main Beatles spots.

But the best way to see the Beatles spots in Liverpool is to start with The Beatles Story museum, then take advantage of two excellent short tours, both of which depart from the museum. The following are highly recommended by OnThisVerySpot.com:

"The Beatles Story" Museum

This wonderful Beatles Museum traces the Fab Four's musical journey from their early musical influences through their solo careers. It includes a recreation of the Cavern Club, a touching tribute to John Lennon, and a substantial selection of Beatles merchandise in the gift shop. Allow yourself at least one hour.

The Beatles Story is located at Albert Dock on the banks of the Mersey River in downtown Liverpool. It is part of a complex that includes a Tourist Information Centre and a variety of restaurants, shops, and art galleries. But be sure to bring a jacket, because the wind coming off the Mersey River never seems to stop!

For complete information, go to www.beatlesstory.com or call (0151) 709 1963.

Magical Mystery Tour

Leaving twice a day from The Beatles Story and ending up down the street at the famous Cavern Club, The Magical Mystery Tour shows you all the main Beatles sights in just over two hours. Even better, the tour takes place on a 1960s-vintage replica of the bus from the 1967 movie Magical Mystery Tour.

For complete information, go to www.cavern-liverpool.co.uk or call (0151) 236 9091 or (0151) 709 3285.

National Trust Tour of Mendips & Forthlin Road

The childhood homes of John Lennon and Paul McCartney are now administered by the National Trust, and a special half-day tour gives you an inside look at both. The tour departs twice a day from The Beatles Story and from one or two other spots around town. For complete information, go to www.nationaltrust.org and search on "Mendips" or "Forthlin Road," or call (0870) 458 4000.
